CARNOUSTIE RFC 33 V KINROSS RFC 12
After a week without a game Carnoustie returned to league duty. The visitors got the game underway with Carnoustie fielding and driving before clearing. Carnoustie conceded a penalty allowing Kinross to play deep into home territory the Carnoustie defence stood firm. In Carnoustie’s next attack with the line beckoning they were forced into touch. Carnoustie again attacked only to drop the ball, Kinross failed to clear their lines and from a line out Carnoustie forwards drove over the line with the ball being grounded by OWEN HUGHES and converted by MARK McQUEEN. Carnoustie kicked from the restart, the follow up was strong and under pressure Kinross knocked the ball on. Carnoustie then took a scrum against the head, drove forward to touch down this time by DAVID RANKIN and again converted by MARK McQUEEN. Carnoustie returned the kick-off, regathered to set up a series of drives with the final touch down by DAVID CAMPBELL, this time the conversion was wide. From the restart Kinross attacked but Carnoustie intercepted a pass to run 50yds up field. From a subsequent scrum Carnoustie cross kicked for winger CHRIS BLACKBURN to touch down and MARK McQUEEN to convert. The half was brought to an end.
Carnoustie restarted the second half which unlike the first half had little to enthuse over only coming to life in the last quarter. After a siege on the visitors line Kinross turned the ball over and raced up field, gained penalty which was tapped and touched down but with no conversion. Carnoustie reply was rapid with sound driving allowing ROB BLYTH to touch down with MARK McQUEEN adding the conversion. Kinross was not finished adding a try in the final seconds which was converted.
